    Dear Gail,

Thank you so much for giving Brother David credit for his beloved meditation. I work with him on the website that he co-founded, http://www.gratefulness.org, where this beautiful recording by Gary Malkin was originally used in a video we produced called “A Good Day,” still seen by thousands on YouTube. Louie did a beautiful job with this new version and we are very grateful to you and others for letting folks know that the words are by our wonderful friend, teacher, author and colleague, Brother David Steindl-Rast.

I am absolutely fascinated by your very interesting bio and grateful for all your work. I hope you will visit our website, too.

    With best wishes,

Hullo Margaret, warm greetings sent to you on the wings of the four winds today from Central Hawke’s Bay here in New Zealand.

In my little kete (the Maori word for a flax-woven basket) I am both a visual artist as well as someone who has worked in a radio medium. When I meet someone for the first time, I often ‘listen’ beyond the niceties of human introduction, my mind wanders as if in search of them. More often than not, I find them in their voice. I listen for inflection and tone and musicality and life and for all the colours of their humanity. It’s there, in those places I’m hoping to meet the real person before me.

While Louie’s images are clearly stunning and I appreciate them enormously, actually I found Brother David’s voice more captivating. It’s the warmth but more particularly, the kindness and humanity in it that made me move to the edge of my seat to listen more intently.

Brother David’s voice, his ‘softly-spoken’ words command attention by their lack of demand in this noisy world that seems at odds with itself, so it speaks louder, for want of listeners. We’re funny creatures we humankind. I endeavour to live my life as humanly possible, with intentional gratitude every day. I’m grateful for your kind words to me today — thank you.

I’ve added the grateful.org’s original video ‘A Good Day’ to my RELATED links too. I do visit your website. It’s a heartful well from which to draw from. Every good wish in return Margaret and do pass my warm wishes to Brother David too.
