We seem to have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous weather-wise. Yesterday it reached 15 degrees celcius and yet today the barometer is barely warming up the mercury in a sobering 13 degree grey day. It feels like a good day to listen to Charlie, Tex and Don.
There’s something about hearing stories told through the strings of a mellowed out guitar and (respectfully) lived-in voices. Something soothing to the soul midst this meterological confusion.
I was thinking it’s been a long time since I wrote a letter, stuck it in a bottle and threw it into the sea in the hope it would wash up on some distant seashore where someone of a similar ilk (and having read it) might feel inspired to do exactly the same thing but in reverse. It’s a nice thought.
But life it can seem is far too pragmatic for such fanciful imaginations. Is finding a letter in a bottle washed up on some far off shore interesting any more? Maybe finders aren’t as enamoured by literary ramblings of that kind any more. Come to think of it, what does move people these days?
Maybe I’m a sook but I was listening to Paul (a singer/songwriter) sing an original composition he wrote recently called ‘Beautiful Lady’, I felt moved to tears not just from the lyrics but by the fact that the human voice still has this amazing power to move me deeply. His jazz rendition of his song touched a chord in me that seemed to resonate in that place where deep speaks to deep.
I wonder sometimes why some songs touch us in those place when other don’t, do you? And if you do, do you ever wonder why. I do. But I have more questions than I have answers, is that how it is for you too?
