Jessi Arrington: Wearing Nothing New

Designer Jessi Arrington packed nothing when she came away to speak at this conference but 7 pairs of undies, buying the rest of her clothes in thrift stores around LA. Hers is a meditation on conscious consumption wrapped in a rainbow of colour and creativity.

ABOUT TED

TED is a small Non Profit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment and Design. They make the best talks and performances from TED and partners available to the world, for free. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted. Here at PLO.com I repost them for your convenience. All videos found in this section have previously appeared in the Major MindStylers section on the frontpage of my website. Enjoy.

ABOUT Jessi Arrington

“Jessi is most frequently referred to as ‘Coach’ both for her tendency to take the lead and for her extreme can-do attitude.

She’s a perfectionist and an optimist. She studied fine arts at Mississippi State and earned a degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Dallas. Jessi is oddly, proud of having been voted ‘Hardest Worker’ by her eighth grade class in Starkville, Mississippi.

Jessi Arrington is a founder and owner of WORKSHOP, a designer firm in Brooklyn. Her favorite colour is rainbow and her default answer is YES. She’s taught Design Fundamentals at Touro College and given guest lectures at NYU; she’s a Board member of AIGA/NY.

Before co-founding WORKSHOP, she carried out branding for Brooklyn Brewery, Tomato Records and Lion Brand Yarn under the direction of Milton Glaser. She makes a hobby of wearing nothing new (except undies)”.
