Dick de Gilder: How Errors can help You

Dick de Gilder says human errors at work can have severe consequences. This is why organisational guidelines tend to specify regulations and procedures that intend to help people avoid such errors. He says, instead of trying to avoid or prevent errors, it’s better to accept they may be inevitable. Individuals and organisations perform best when people are open to the possibility that errors are made and try to learn from them.

“Dick de Gilder (PhD, Groningen 1991) worked as an Organisational Consultant for TNO, and currently is Associate Professor of Organisation Sciences at the VU University Amsterdam.

He teaches and does research on Error Cultures and Error Management in a variety of organisations specialising in: Identity, Corporate social responsibility organisations, Involvement, Loyalty, Errors and Esteem.

The overarching theme of the Internal organisational processes include:  Social identity/involvement of organisational members, Respect, Trust, social networks.Positive and negative effects of a strong identification with the team or organisation. The relationship between the own position in the social network in the organisation and the degree of identification. Identification by temporary.

Also dealing with/learning from mistakes in organisations. Under what circumstances are individuals, teams and organisations to learn from errors that occur in the organisation and management of research. What are the factors that contribute to good performance groups of researchers.

He has published on team and organisational commitment, motivation of elderly and casual workers, and the relation between respect and work performance.”
